Session Info
Where does the session take place? All sessions are on-location, either in your home or another preferred place within 20 miles of 48317. Locations farther than 20 miles will have a small travel fee.
What kind of photography do you do? I photograph newborns 14 days and under, babies of all ages, and families. At this time, I do not do wedding, engagement, boudoir, and product photography. I do take on limited event photography, so always ask before ruling it out.
What session should I choose? There are 3 different sessions for you to choose from. Newborns 4-14 days are always categorized under a “newborn session.” Babies and families can choose from a 45-minute “mini session” or “standard full session” that can last up to 2 hours, but usually runs about an hour and a half. The mini session works well for school-age children and families or for one baby at a milestone time (3, 6, 9 months, 1 year). I do not recommend a mini session for multiple young children. The full session allows us much more flexibility with the pictures and more time to give the kids a breather. Many people think that their children will “not last” for 2 hours, but that is not really necessary. During the time of the session, your child does not have to be on and smiling for 2 hours straight. There is a lot of playing involved in these sessions. I’ve noticed children tend to thrive in the longer sessions, as parents are not feeling a time-crunch and everyone can just relax. In either session, you can have as many outfits/looks/set-ups as the time (and the kids) allow.
How much are sessions? Newborn sessions are $200, full sessions are $150, and mini sessions are $100. This cover the session only and does not include any prints, products, or digital images.
When should I schedule? Now. Really, the sooner the better. Weekends book up faster than anything else and usually 3 months in advance. I tend to have more openings during the week (days and evenings), but still, check asap to get the date you want.
How do I see my pictures? What can I order? You’ll see your images on an online, password-protected gallery two weeks or less after your session. Newborn and full session galleries usually have about 50 images to choose from while mini sessions have about 30. I offer traditional prints, wall portraits, specialty portraits, cards and announcements, and other products. I bring samples of everything will me to your session so you can see everything. You can order as much or as little as you’d like as I do not have a minimum order requirement, although most families tend to spend about $400-1000 on their order. Please inquire to see a full pricing guide.
My child is sick. Should I reschedule? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The only time I really say it is fine to keep your session is if it is the typical mild runny nose/cough that it seems all little ones have. Please, please, please reschedule if your child has a fever, is throwing up (or has in the last 24-48 hours), or has other illnesses that are contagious. This goes for you or any other child in the family, as well. Just because you are not being photographed doesn’t mean your germs aren’t being spread. I hate to be a stickler about this, but it is extremely important for me to stay healthy as I work with dozens of babies and children every month. I do not want to pass the germs on to them just as I’m sure you wouldn’t want their germs passed onto your children. It is also important because I have a notoriously weak immune system and I will never show up to your home ill.
My child bumped his head yesterday. Should I reschedule? Depends on the intensity of it. I can often photoshop it out, so don’t automatically think we’ll need to switch days. Call me or send me a picture of it and I can let you know.
What happens in a newborn session? A newborn session is for babies between 4-14 days old. We can extend this range if baby was born early (call me to talk about it). I come to your home with an assistant and everything we will need for the session. Although I provide all props and blankets, feel free to have out anything special you may want in your pictures. This includes blankets, headbands, hats, accessories, etc. While I am there, you get to relax and watch the whole time. You may be needed for feedings, but that’s it. We take care of all baby’s needs. We will do pictures of baby by themselves and with siblings/parents if desired. These sessions tend to last about 3 hours.
